No abstract supplied: This memo investigates the relative importance of physically placing the antennas very close together and uniform aperture illumination to achieve the required effective Fourier sampling at short spacings for homogeneous array mosaicing. The uniform illumination produces poor off-axis performance, precluding any future multi-beam systems. While a tapered dish illumination does not give quite so good effective Fourier plane coverage as the uniform illumination, this can be compensated for by placing the antennas very close together.
