This memo describes a system for assigning identifying numbers to engineering documents in the ALMA project. It is intended to cover drawings (broadly defined, including various CAD files), specifications, interface control documents, and similar items; but extension to other types of documents is possible. Also described is an automatic system for obtaining numbers for new documents and for retrieving information about existing documents.
